Odisha STF Seizes Drugs Worth Rs 2.5 Crores, Arrests 3

Odisha police recovered 2.58 kgs of brown sugar in a major drug haul, on June 6. The drugs worth Rs 2.5 crores were recovered by the Special Task Force, which also arrested three peddlers after they received special information. The STF raided a place near AIIMS, Bhubaneswar, and seized the brown sugar. Furthermore, a case under of NDPS Act 1985 has been registered in this connection.

Odisha Cabinet Ministers Take Oath Aiming Reshuffle

In Odisha, a new cabinet of 13 elected ministers took oath on June 5, at 11:45 am, a day after 20 Naveen Patnaik-led Government Cabinet ministers (20) resigned. The step was taken aiming to reshuffle, paving way for new MLAs like Jagannath Saraka, Niranjan Pujari, and RP Swain and three women MLAs Pramila Mallick, Usha Devi, and Tukuni Sahu. Governor Ganeshi Lal administered the oath to 13 newly elected ministers.

Odisha Special Task Force Unit Seizes Over 1010 kg Of Ganja, Detained 1

The Odisha Special Task Force seized approximately 1,010 kg of ganja in Bhubaneswar on June 4. The crew stopped a truck near Tamando on the National Highway and seized more than ten quintals of illicit drugs. One person, Rajesh Singh, has been detained in association with the narcotics bust. The cargo was discovered hidden within a secret chamber of the truck. A complaint has been filed, and investigation is ongoing.

Foetus Sex Detection Racket Busted In Odisha's Berhampur, 13 Arrested

In Odisha's Berhampur, 13 persons have been arrested for allegedly running a foetus sex detection racket. The main accused in the case has been identified as an ASHA worker. Reportedly, they would identify the gender of the foetus in a pregnant woman, and arrange for an abortion, if it is a female. Furthermore, one Ultrasound machine along with its equipments, a register and a mobile phone have been seized.

Odisha Govt Brings Down Bus Fares After Reduce In Diesel Price

After diesel prices were reduced in Odisha from Rs 102.22 to Rs 94.74 per litre on May 26, the state government has cut the bus fares, reducing the burden of daily commuters. The reduced rates apply to the stage carriages and not the town buses plying within the state of Odisha. For regular, delux and premium buses, the fare is reduced by three paise, six paise and nine paise, respectively.

Woman Gang Raped, Body Burnt In Tamil Nadu's Rameswaram; Locals Thrash Accused

In Tamil Nadu's Rameswaram, a 40-year-old woman who went to the beach to collect seaweed, was reportedly abducted and killed by six natives of Odisha who work at a shrimp farm on May 26. After she went missing, her husband lodged a complaint, after which, her body was found partially burnt. Agitated locals, who also accused that she was sexually assaulted, set fire to the farm, and thrashed the accused.

Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik virtually inaugurated the Olympic Values Education Programme (OVEP) in 90 schools on May 24. The International Olympic Committee created the OVEP as a practical set of resources. CM Naveen Patnaik remarked that this was the start of a new Olympic movement in India. The program's goal is to spread this value-based education so that children may grow up to be active, healthy, and responsible citizens.

Administration Seals Church Gate After Complaints Of Religious Conversion: Odisha

In Odisha's Bhadrak, Section 144 has been imposed by the district administration after receiving complaints alleging a church to be involved in conversion of innocent tribals to Christianity. With this, not more than three persons are allowed to gather within the vicinity of the church, and the church gate is sealed. Sub collector of Bhadrak Manoj Patra said, "we found out that there is some breach of peace between communities".
