Around 18.64 Crore Unutilised Covid Vaccine Doses Available With States, UTs

The Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare shared on 7th May that over 18.64 crore unutilised Covid vaccine doses are still available with states and Union Territories. More than 193.53 crore doses have been provided to the states and the UTs so far through the Government of India, the Union Health Ministry noted. The Covid vaccination drive had started in India on January 16, 21.

Dehradun School Declared Micro-Containment Zone Over Seven Covid Cases

A school in Dehradun has been declared a micro-containment zone over just seven Covid cases. Dr R Rajesh Kumar, the District Magistrate of Dehradun, stated, "This decision was taken after a report from the Chief Minister's Office." He has also directed the police to ensure barricades and security arrangements over these cases. On 5th May, the state of Uttarakhand only reported 23 Covid cases.

Quadruple Vaccinated Kamala Harris To Return To Work Following Covid Recovery

The quadruple vaccinated US Vice-President, Kamala Harris, would return to work, after testing negative on a rapid antigen test. Harris had recently tested positive for Covid-19, and gone into home isolation. Many slammed Harris after it was reported that she had been taking anti-viral oral drug Paxlovid to treat Covid-19, despite the fact that she was said to have no symptoms.

NTAGI To Review Covid Vaccine Data For Children In 5-12 Age Group

The NTAGI would review the Covid vaccine data for children in the age group of 5 to 12 years. This comes just days after the Drug Controller General of India (DCG) okayed Corbevax for children falling in the age bracket of 5 to 12 years, and Covaxin for children aged 6 to 12 years, for emergency use. The NTAGI recently also approved Covovax for children aged 12 to 17 years.

Daily Covid Cases Dip, Recovery Rate Currently At 98.74%

The daily Covid cases in India took another dip on 2nd May as the country recorded only 2,223 fresh cases in the last 24 hours. The Covid recovery rate currently stands at 98.74%. As many as 2,723 Covid patients have recovered from the disease in the last 24 hours, pushing the total number of recoveries since the onset of the pandemic up to 4,25,38,976.

India reported 3,303 fresh cases of COVID-19 in the last 24 hours, taking the total active case load in the country to 16,980, on April 28. Furthermore, 39 deaths were recorded in the last 24 hours, taking the total death toll to 5,23,693. The daily positivity rate stands at 0.66%, and weekly positivity rate at 0.61%. Notably, India has administered over 188.40 cumulative doses of COVID-19, so far.

India has reported 2,541 new cases of COVID-19 in the last 24 hours, taking the total active case load to 16,522, on April 25. Also, 30 new fatalities have been recorded in the last 24 hours, taking the total death toll in the country to 5,22,223. The daily positivity rate stands at 0.84% and weekly positivity rate at 0.54%. Notably, India has administered over 187.71 cumulative doses of COVID-19 vaccine.

'No Need To Shut Schools,' Say Experts Amid COVID-19 Surge

ICMR Additional DG, Dr Samiran Panda, has opined that there is no need to shut schools over a spike in Covid-19 cases. He also stated that children are not the drivers of the Covid-19 spread. He further stressed that school closures negatively affect children. Dr Chandrakant Lahariya, an epidemiologist and physician, also noted that Covid-19 tends to be mild or asymptomatic in most children.

Delhi Records 314 Recoveries In Last 24 Hours Amid Rise In COVID-19 Cases

Delhi recorded 314 Covid-19 recoveries in the last 24 hours, pushing the total number of recoveries in the national capital up to 18,41,890. As per the Delhi government health bulletin, 1,009 new Covid-19 cases were reported in the last 24 hours in the highly vaccinated national capital. Delhi has also reimposed the mask mandate amid a surge in the number of infections. Public health experts have strongly advised against panic.
