Anil Baijal, the lieutenant governor of Delhi, resigned on May 18 claiming personal concerns and stating that he has tendered his resignation to President Ram Nath Kovind. Baijal is an IAS officer from the 1969 batch of the AGMUT cadre (Arunachal Pradesh-Goa-Mizoram and Union Territory). He was a former vice-chairman of the Delhi Development Authority in Delhi. In the Atal Bihari Vajpayee government, Baijal was made home secretary. 

Sri Lanka Government lifted imposed overnight curfew, which was imposed after a group of people staged a violent protest outside President Gotabaya Rajapaksa's residence. During the protest, approximately 50 people including police officials and journalists were injured. French President Emmanuel Macron said that he would run for a second term in the forthcoming presidential elections which will take place in April. Macron described the government's reforms and challenges faced by the country. "All of this has allowed us to be credible and to convince our main neighbors to start building a powerful Europe," Macron said. However, he said, he'll try to make France a great ecological nation. 

The Parliament of Iraq has decided to conduct a session on February 7 to elect the new President of the country. In a meeting between Parliamentary speaker Mohammed Al-Halbousi and his two deputies, it was decided that a session to continue constitutional process towards forming a new government, will be held. It was also decided to announce the names of the eligible candidates who can run for the presidential post.

The US President Joe Biden is going to appoint four Indian-Americans, Smita Shah, Ajay Bhutoria, Sonal Shah and Kamal Kalsi as advisory commissioners. The appointments made for President's Advisory Commission on Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians and Pacific slanders (AANHPI) community, will work for their policies and ways to strengthen the community.
