West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee In Delhi, Likely To Meet PM Modi

West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee is in Delhi and is likely to meet PM Narendra Modi, on August 5. As per Trinamool Congress (TMC) sources, Banerjee will discuss the release the backlog fund of almost 97,000 crore rupees to the state. Furthermore, Mamata Banerjee will also have a courtesy meeting with the new president of India, Draupadi Murmu in Delhi. Notably, on August 3, Banerjee met TMC leaders in Delhi.

Passengers In Pickup Van Get Electrocuted In West Bengal's Cooch Behar; 10 Dead, 16 Injured

In West Bengal's Cooch Behar district, a pickup van got electrocuted on August 1, resulting in the death of at least 10 persons. Sixteen out of 27 passengers sustained minor injuries, due which, have been admitted to Jalpaiguri hospital for treatment. According to the police, the electrocution happened due to the wiring of the generator of the DJ system. Further details are awaited.

24 Kg Ivory Seized From Smugglers In West Bengal; 2 Arrested

In West Bengal, forest officials apprehended two persons for allegedly smuggling ivory obtained from elephant tusk. The ivory weight upto 24 kgs in total. According to forest officer Hari Krishnan, the duo was coming from Malbazar area, when they were stopped and checked. The accused have admitted to the offence, and stated that the ivory was supposed to be delivered to their counterpart in Nepal. Further details are awaited.

Kerala Records Highest Number Of Landslides In Last 7 Years: Govt

The Ministry of Earth and Science told Lok Sabha on July 27, that Kerala recorded the highest number of landslides in the country, in the last seven years. Out of the 3,782 major landslides that occurred in the country during the said period, 2,239 were recorded in Kerala. West Bengal recorded the second highest number of landslides in the said time, with 376 landslides.

ED Arrests TMC Minister Partha Chatterjee In Teacher Recruitment Scam Case: West Bengal

West Bengal Industry Minister Partha Chatterjee has been arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in an alleged school jobs scam, on July 23. The arrest was made after questioning the TM-General Secretary, the then WB education minister into the alleged recruitment scam.
