In addition to, women find it difficult to quit smoking once and for all. “Compared to male smokers, women tend to rate graphic warning labels overall as more credible, evoking more negative emotions, and eliciting higher motivation to quit,” noted an author of the study.

Daughters To Inherit Father's Self-Acquired Property In absence Of Legal Heir: SC
The Supreme Court on January 20, stated that the daughters of a male Hindu, dying intestate, would be entitled to inherit the self-acquired properties. She will have rights over properties obtained in the partition by the father and get preference over other collateral members of the family, SC further added. The judgment deals with the property rights of Hindu women and widows under the Hindu Succession Act.

Filipino Women's Football Team Reach India: Asian Football Cup
Amid surge in COVID-19 cases, a team from Philippines on January 14, arrived in India for the AFC Women's Asian Cup which will start from January 20 in the state of Maharastra. Australia Cricket Postpones Domestic Matches Over Border Restrictions
About two fixtures of the 2021-22 Women's National Cricket League have been postponed by Cricket Australia on January 4, over the restrictions on border. The matches were scheduled to be played between Tasmania and Western Australia at Blundstone Arena on January 7 and 9. However, owing to restrictions imposed between the two states, the matches will now be played on March 9 and March 11.

Govt Releases Rs 2,714 Crores Under PM SVANidhi Scheme
The Central Government released Rs 2,714 crore, under PM Street Vendor's AtmaNirbhar Nidhi (PM SVANidhi Scheme), on December 20. As per the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, a total of 30.75 lakh beneficiaries were sanctioned loans under the scheme, of which 27.06 lakh people received the benefits. The beneficiaries, who received money, Include 41% of women in India.

Crime Against Women Drops In 2020: NCRB Data
The National Crime Records Bureau on December 15 released the data about criminal cases against women. The data revealed that in 2020, crime against women, including sexual harassment and rape, declined to 3,71,503 from 2019's 4,05,326 cases. Of the total, the nation reported 28,046 rape cases in 2020 and 32,032 cases in 2019. In addition, the highest cases of rapes were reported in Rajasthan (5,310) and Uttar Pradesh (2,769).

Australian Govt To End Violence Against Women: Domestic Violence Commission
The government of Australia announced to build a new commission to help end violence against women and children in the country, on November 23. The commission is part of the government's new national plan to reduce family, domestic, and sexual violence, which will come into effect in 2022, reported UNI. Reportedly, the funding of 22.4 million Australian dollars has also been allotted for the same.

Bihar Govt To Give Rs 1 Lakh To Girls Who Clear Prelims Of UPSC, BPSC
To empower women in society, the Bihar government decided to provide Rs 1 lakh through scholarships to the women of the general category who clears the preliminary exams for Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) and Bihar Public Service Commissions (BPSC). Women who cleared the 2021 exams can fill online applications for the benefit till December 3. Notably, the scheme is already open for SC, ST, and OBC women candidates.

Kuwait Allows Women To Take Part In Military Services
In a step to empower women in the country, Kuwait allowed women to join the National Military Services on October 12. However, women will initially serve in the field of medical and military support. ''Kuwaiti women have proven their achievements in several fields,'' said Kuwait's Deputy PM and Defense Minister Sheikh Hamad Jaber Al-Ali Al-Sabah. Earlier in 2008, Kuwait allowed women to join the police.

Taliban Disbands Women's Ministry, Replaces With 'Ministry For Morality'
In the latest development in Afghanistan, the Taliban announced that the Ministry of Woman's Affairs will be replaced with a Ministry for morality on September 16. Furthermore, it has changed the signboard of the Ministry and named it "Ministries of Prayer and Guidance and the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice". Earlier, it had said no women would be allowed to work with men in government ministries.
