Bird Flu Outbreak: Assam Halts Poultry Import As Preventive Measure
Owing to the alarming spread of Bird flu, the Assam government on January 8 temporarily halted the import of poultry. However, not a single case of bird flu has been reported in the region. Reportedly, the state government has banned imports as a precautionary measure based on suggestions from the Animal Husbandry and Veterinary department. Interestingly, the ban has resulted in an increased demand for fish and mutton in the state.
