Home Ministry's Advisory Makes FIR Compulsory In Crime Against Women
The Home Ministry has directed the states and Union Territories for compulsory registration of FIRs and immediate police action in "crime against women". It instructed to complete the investigation process in two months and warned of stringent actions in case of failure. It also asked states to monitor the cases on Investigation Tracking System for Sexual Offences (ITSSO) for follow-ups. The ministry recommended SOPs, issued by Bureau of Police Research and Development, for investigation.
