India Slips In 2020 Sustainable Development Goals Standings, Ranks 117th
India has been ranked 117th in the United Nation's Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) rankings for 2020. The SDG report suggested that India performed poorly in goals concerned with gender equality, leading to a slip from 115th rank in 2019. Notably, during the last year's COVID-induced lockdown, cases of violence against women had increased from 1,411 to 2,165 per month. Moreover, India lags behind Pakistan, China and Bangladesh in the representation of women in legislative bodies.
