To Manage Ties, Sri Lankan Govt Grants Strategic Port To India, Japan
The Sri Lankan Government has planned to offer India and Japan a strategically located deep-rooted seaport. Seen as Lanka’s stance to balance the international ties with India and Japan, the decision came after Colombo almost pulled a deal last month to develop the east container terminal near the Chinese-run container jetty. Additionally, the government said the countries would have an 85% stake in the under-construction west container terminal.
