FSSAI Issues Guideline For Eating Eggs, Chicken Amidst Bird Flu

Amid the tension of rapidly growing bird flu, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India released a list of measures to mind while eating eggs and chicken. The list advises people to consume properly cooked eggs and chicken. Moreover, the guideline suggested avoiding direct contact with birds and the usage of masks and gloves while handling raw chicken. Besides, the advisory noted that the virus is destroyed at 70°C.

Delhi Govt Permits Resumption Of Poultry Markets From Jan 14

As bird flu samples test negative, Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal on January 14 announced the reopening of poultry markets and the resumption of trade and import of chicken stocks. Amidst bird flu scare, the government on January 9 had imposed a 10-day closure of Ghazipur market and had temporarily banned the import of live birds. Besides, the animal husbandry department has verified that only crows and ducks are infected.

Bird Flu Outbreak: Assam Halts Poultry Import As Preventive Measure

Owing to the alarming spread of Bird flu, the Assam government on January 8 temporarily halted the import of poultry. However, not a single case of bird flu has been reported in the region. Reportedly, the state government has banned imports as a precautionary measure based on suggestions from the Animal Husbandry and Veterinary department. Interestingly, the ban has resulted in an increased demand for fish and mutton in the state.

Minister Warns On Zoonotic Nature Of Bird Flu; No Deaths Reported

Animal Husbandry Minister Sanjeev Balyan on January 6 said the spreading bird flu could be transmitted to human however no such case has been reported in the country. Warning people about the non-preventive nature of flu, he informed the states had been asked to take preventive measures including timely sampling and safe disposal of dead avians. Moreover, he informed a central control room has been created at the department in Delhi.
