Bihar Govt Allots Rs 660 Cr To Compensate Farmers' Loss

The Bihar government under the leadership of Nitish Kumar has decided to compensate farmers who lost their crops due to rainfall and waterlogging. The Bihar cabinet approved Rs 550 crore for farmers who lost their standing crop and Rs 100 crores for those who couldn't even sow this Kharif season. Reportedly, the concerned district officials will decide the subsidy after the assessment of the damage.

Punjab CM Meets PM Modi; Urges To Repeal Farm laws

The newly crowned Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi has met Prime Minister Modi on October 1 and urged him to withdraw all three controversial farm laws. Reportedly, CM Channi has also requested the PM to withdraw Centre's decision to postpone the paddy procurement in the agricultural dominant state.  CM Channi also appealed to the PM "to end the deadlock with farmers".

Govt Has To Compensate Farmers For Loss Due To Rain: Telangana HC

The Telangana High Court ordered the state government in its verdict, on September 28, to compensate the farmers for their crop-loss due to heavy rains and floods in October 2020. Reportedly, a PIL was filed by S Ashalatha of the Rythu Swarajya Vedika (RSV), Vissa Kirankumar, Kenneganti Ravi in November 2020. However, RSV welcomed the judgment and said the government should also provide compensation for this year's loss.

Protesting Farmers Refused To Attend Meeting Convened By Haryana Govt

The protesting farmers have refused to attend a meeting to be convened on September 19 by the Haryana government to discuss the opening of border passage to Delhi. Since November 2020, farmers near the Singhu and Tikri border have been blocking the highway (NH-44) in protest of the new agricultural laws enacted by the center. Besides, farmers blamed Delhi police for obstructing access to the city's highways through barricading.

Samyukt Kisan Morcha Issues Guidelines For 'Bharat Bandh' On Sept 27

The Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) protesting against three farms laws has issued guidelines for Bharat Bandh to be held on September 27, starting from 6 AM to 4 PM. Farmer union promised to keep a peaceful protest. During protest offices, markets, schools, colleges are not allowed to function, but emergency services will be allowed to avoid inconvenience to public. SKM will hold a preparatory meeting on September 20.

Haryana Farmer Dies Due To Cardiac Arrest; Investigation Underway

Manoj Sharma, a 37-year-old farmer has died due to cardiac arrest near KFC mall at Singhu border on September 15. He belonged to Sonepat's Khanpur Kalan village, Haryana. The 37-year-old had been proactive during the November 2020 protest of farmers encircling Delhi outskirts. He also attended the Samyukt Kisan Morcha's maha-panchayat at Muzaffarnagar in UP. However, the police have filed a case under Section 174 of CrPc.

Election Rallies Should be On Hold Until Polls Declared In Punjab: SKM

The Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) on September 10 advised political parties of Punjab not to conduct election rallies as it impacts the campaigns by cultivators. However, the three parties including Congress, Shiromani Akali Dal, and Aam Aadmi Party disagreed with the decision. “They will face the music if they refuse to accept our appeal and it will be considered as anti-farmer," BS Rajewal president of Bhartiya Kisan Union said.

Union Minister Sanjeev Balyan stated that farmers' protests against Central Agriculture Laws have turned political. He said, "farmers will protest against BJP in UP & Punjab.
