9 People Found From Missing Japan Tour Boat, Says Coast Guard
Nine people from the Japanese tour boat, which recently went missing with 26 people on board, have finally been found. The people were rescued near the tip of Cape Shiretoko. While four were found in an unconscious state, the details about the rest are still awaited. Reportedly, there were as many as 24 passengers and two crew members on board when the boat went missing. Rescue operations are still underway.

Japan Witnesses Biggest Population Drop On Record
Japan saw a massive drop in population in 2021 as the number dropped by 6,44,000. It is the biggest decline ever recorded in Japanese history. The population in Japan has been dipping for eleven years straight, according to the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications. The ministry explained that the deaths outnumbered the births, and the number of citizens leaving the country was greater than those immigrating to Japan.

Japanese Fears China's Invasion To Taiwan

India & Japan To Work Together On Electric Vehicles, Battery Storage & Hydrogen
India and Japan launched the Clean Energy Partnership (CEP) for addressing climate change and ensuring energy security. In addition, both countries have joined hands to boost areas such as electric vehicles (EV), battery storage, hydrogen, and so on. Notably, India is targeting net zero-carbon emission by the year 2070, while Japan is likely to achieve the target by 2050.

Japanese PM Fumio Kishida Starts His 2-day Visit To India
Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida is set to start his two-day visit to India, to discuss the ongoing Ukrainian crisis at the 14th India-Japan Annual Summit. The summit was last held in Tokyo, in October 2018. Kishida's visit shows the support as partners in the Special Strategic and Global Partnership. Various Japanese companies operate in India and Japanese courses are set up in various colleges.

PM Modi To Participate In Quad Leader's Virtual Meet
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will participate in a Quad Leader's virtual meeting on March 3, along with US President Joe Biden, Japan and Australia prime ministers. "They will exchange views and assessments about important developments in the Indo-Pacific," the MEA said. It will also strengthen bilateral relations between the different countries. Toyota Retains World's Largest Car-Maker Title
Toyota has become the world's largest "car-seller" for the second time in a row with an increase of 10.1% in vehicle sales. The Japanese car-maker has reportedly sold 10.5 million vehicles in 2021. Volkswagen sold 8.9 million vehicles in 2021, bagging the second spot. Volkswagen stated that the sales figures were affected due to a chip shortage the company faced owing to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Japan Govt Extends Entry Ban Amid Omicron Threat: COVID-19
Citing Omicron situation, Japan PM, Fumio Kishida on January 11, announced ban on entry of non-resident foreigners till the end of February. The entry ban has been in place since November 30, following Japan's first case of the highly contagious Omicron variant. Kishida suggested that a formal decision whether to continue entry ban in its current form would be decided once Japan's long weekend finished.

US, Japan Set To Defend Taiwan From Chinese Aggression
The US and Japan, with a contingency plan, are ready to defend Tiwan from the Chinese aggression. The two countries agreed over a draft plan, which was initially proposed by US Pacific command and Japan's self defense. The plan has been taken jointly, stressing Chinese attacks on Taiwan. Possibly, the US marines with the help of Japanese Army would set up base in Nansei islands, close to Taiwan for emergency.
