EC Announces Ease In Campaign, Allows Padyatra & Extra Hours

In a relief to political parties, the Election Commission of India (ECI) announced relaxations. According to the issued notification on February 12, padayatras with a limited people are allowed. In addition, poll campaign hours have been extended for four hours, 6:00 am to 10: pm, from the previous 8:00 am to 10 pm. Notably, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Goa, Punjab and Manipur are set to contest Assembly elections.

PM Modi Wears Traditional Outfit Of Uttarakhand & Manipur On Republic Day

On the occasion of Republic Day, PM Narendra Modi wore the traditional cap of Uttarakhand and the Manipuri stole. PM Modi's gesture of wearing traditional and symbolic attires from the two poll bound states impressed the CM of Uttarakhand Pushkar Singh Dhami. He appreciated the move and extended gratitude on behalf of Uttarakhand's 1.25 crore population. Notably, Uttarakhand and Manipur are set to contest Assembly elections in February.

BJP Core Group To Hold Meeting In Delhi: Manipur Assembly Elections

Bharatiya Janata Party core group to chair a meeting for the upcoming Manipur elections, in Delhi. The meeting came after the EC has extended ban on physical rallies till January 31, amid COVID-19 surge. However, it allowes door-to-door campaigns with 10 people and video vans for publicity. Elections for 60 assembly seats in Manipur are scheduled to be held in two phases from February 27.

Election Schedule For Punjab, Uttarakhand, Goa, UP & Manipur Announced

The Election Commission announced the Assembly Election Schedule for five states, on January 8. In Punjab, Uttarkhand, and Goa, the voting will begin on February 14 and will end on the same date. In UP, the voting will start on February 10 and will end on March 7. The voting in Manipur will start on February 27 and end on March 3. The counting will begin on March 10.

Amit Shah Lays Foundation Stone For Projects Worth Rs 2,450 Crores: Manipur

Union Home Minister Amit Shah laid the foundation stone for 29 development projects, on January 6, in Manipur. Shah launched projects worth Rs 2,450 crores, through virtual meeting, held at Delhi office. "Be it mountains, valleys, forests, villages or cities, Biren Singh has achieved success in bringing development everywhere," said Shah.  He also appreciated efforts of BJP Government in Manipur, aiming development.

Assam Rifles Jawan Killed In Terrorist Attack In Manipur

In the Usoipokpi Sangomsang area of Manipur's Thoubal district, one Assam Rifles jawan succumbed to his injuries in a terrorist attack, on January 5. In addition, one jawan got injured in a suspected IED blast. Reportedly, the incident took place when a team of 16 Assam Rifles was patrolling the area. However, the government promised to give a befitting reply to the terrorists.

PM Modi Inaugrurates, Lays Foundation Stone Of Several Projects: Manipur

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated 13 projects worth Rs 1,850 crores and also laid the foundation stone for nine projects worth around Rs 2,950 in Manipur's Imphal, on January 4. The inauguration projects include 200 Bedded Covid Hospital at Kiyamgei, Imphal Smart City Mission, 2,387 mobile towers, and Steel Bridge over Barak River. Notably, PM Modi laid the foundation of five National Highway projects worth Rs over 1,700 crore.

IED Bomb Goes Off In Manipur, No Casualty Reported

In front of a Gala mal Godown Telipati in Manipur's Imphal East, a powerful IED blast reportedly took place on December 29.  The incident took place at 3.30 am and no casualties were reported. The Police team and ballistic team of the Forensic Science Laboratory were sent to the site for investigation. "We scrutinized the CCTV footage and detected a man," said Khailet Lhanghal, Sub-Inspector of Police, to ANI.
