Mizoram & Nicobar Island Witnessed Earthquake
Regions of Nicobar Island and Mizoram witnessed a slight earthquake, in the wee hours of April 11. Occurred at 2:46 AM, the earthquake magnitude was of 4.6, at a depth of 32 km, confirmed sources. The National Centre of Siesmology tweeted, "Earthquake of Magnitude:4.6 occurred on 10-04-2023, 02:26:02 IST, Lat: 8.98 and Long: 94.07, Depth: 32 Km , Location: 220km N of Campbell Bay, Nicobar island."

Mizoram Police Seize 374 Grams Of Heroin Worth Rs 1.87 Cr From Middle-Aged Woman
In Mizoram’s Aizawl, police seized 374 grams of heroin, which is estimated to be valued at Rs 1.87 crore in the International market, on September 17. The police also arrested a 43-year-old woman and seized the drugs from her possession. Reportedly, the drugs were packed in 29 soap cases. The accused has been identified as Rohlupuii, a resident of Aizawl. Further details are awaited.

Nine Exotic Wild Animals Rescued While Being Smuggled Into Assam From Mizoram
The Mizoram police in Vairengte, rescued nine exotic wild animals from smugglers, which they attempted to smuggle them from Mizoram to Assam, on August 24. Two persons identified as John Lalramnghaka (39) and Lalremruata (20) have been arrested by the police. Notably in May, Mizoram police rescued 468 smuggled exotic wild animals from the Champhai district bordering Myanmar, reported Hindustan Times.

African Swine Fever Discovered in Mizoram's Wild Pigs
The African Swine Fever (ASF) has expanded to wild animals in Mizoram, and vaccination is the only way to stop the lethal swine disease from spreading. The state government has chosen to write to the Centre and request that vaccinations against viral sickness be imported from Vietnam. The National Institute of High-Security Animal Diseases in Bhopal confirmed that the wild boars died of ASF.

Voting Begins For Local Body Elections In Mizoram
Voting has begun for the 25-member Mara Autonomous District Council in Mizoram's Siaha, on May 5. Security has been tightened in the area and strict adherence to Covid-19 protocols are being ensured, said an official. Reportedly, the voting began at 7 am and will go on till 5 pm. Furthermore, 42,342 voters are expected to turn up and decide the fate of 85 candidates.

Assam Rifles Recovers 6,120 kg Areca Nuts From Mizoram's Champai
In Mizoram's Champhai, the Assam Rifles recovered 6,120 kg areca nuts worth Rs 26.19 lakh on March 5. The smuggling of areca nuts in Mizoram is a major concern, especially along the India-Myanmar border. "The operation was carried out by a team of 8 Assam Rifles and 11 Assam Rifles on specific information," said Assam Rifles. However, the customs department has seized the contraband items and further investigation is underway.

Sakibul Ghani Creates World Record On Ranji Trophy Debut; Scores Triple Century
Bihar's Sakibul Ghani has created a world record on his Ranji Trophy debut as he smashed a triple century against Mizoram, on February 18. The 22-year-old Sakibul took 405 balls, 56 fours along two sixes to reach this feat. He made List A debut in 2019 and has played 14 matches in the format. Notably, Ajay Rohera earlier held the record for the highest individual score with 267* runs.

2 Drug Peddlers Held By BSF With Rs 6.52 Crore Yaba Tablets: Mizoram
In Mizoram's Kolasib district, the Border Security Force have detained two drugs peddlers including Mynamar national with Rs 6.52 crore of contraband drugs on February 11. The accused has been identified as Samir Dev (49), and Solomon (36). The BSF seized 1,30,492 Yaba tablets weighing about 12.8 kg. On the specific input by BSF, 38 battalions of BSF and Excise and Narcotics department arrested two people in a joint operation.

Assam Rifles Recovers Rs 3 Crore Heroin From Mizoram's Champai
In Mizoram's Champhai district, the Serchhip Battalion of Assam Rifles on February 9, has seized 751.2 grams of heroin. According to an official statement by Assam Rifles, the heroin was recovered from Venglai village in Champhai district, the recovered heroin is worth Rs 3 crore. During the search operation done by Assam Rifles, the drugs were recovered by the battalion. Moreover, further details are awaited.

Mizoram Reports 2,064 New COVID-19 Cases In 24 Hrs
In 24 hours, Mizoram registered 2,064 new COVID-19 cases, taking the tally of active cases to 13,721. As per the sources, the positivity rate in the state stands at 27.32%, while 591 deaths have been reported so far. Notably, 1,67,725 COVID cases have been reported in the Mizoram state in total, confirmed the health department. Meanwhile, over 163.84 crore vaccine doses have been administered in the country till the date.
