Mary D’souza Sequeira, Mumbai's first women Olympian athlete and 'Dhyan Chand' award winner had to organize a dance and a whist competition to raise funds to participate in Finland’s Helsinki 1952 Olympics. Her journey as an athlete began with the Asian Games 1951, where she bagged bronze in the 200m race and silver in the 4x100m relay. Sequeira claimed gold in the 1954 Manali’s Asian Games.

75% At Tokyo Olympic Village Already Vaccinated, Most To Be Done By Games

The International Olympic Committee chief Thomas Bach on May 19 said, almost 75% of the people residing in the Tokyo Olympic village are vaccinated or scheduled for vaccination. Bach emphasized that at least 75% of the participants will be vaccinated before the games. Interestingly, the statement came amid Tokyo 2020 organisers facing severe backlash to cancel/postpone the games due to COVID-19 infections in various countries.

बीसीसीआई ने बड़ा फैसला लेते हुए बताया कि भारतीय क्रिकेट टीम पहली बार 2028 में लॉस एंजिल्स में होने वाले ओलंपिक खेलों में हिस्सा लेगी। ओलंपिक में भाग लेने वाली टीमें राष्ट्रीय खेल संघ के तहत आती हैं जिसको लेकर बीसीसीआई ने शर्त रखी है की खिलाड़ियों को तभी भेजा जाएगा जब उसके ऊपर किसी का अधिकार नहीं होगा और वो अपना स्वायत्तता नहीं छोड़ेगी।

70% Of People In Japan Favour Cancellation Or Deferment Of Olympics

A recent opinion poll, conducted by Kyodo News, has indicated that more than 70% of the Japanese want the Tokyo Olympics to either get cancelled or postponed. Only 24.5% of the people surveyed supported the Olympics' schedule. While about 39.2 % of the respondents voted in favour of cancellation, 32.8% opted for deferment. Moreover, about 93% of the Japanese have expressed fear that the COVID-19 cases can rise again.
