Five persons were shot and injured in a shootout at Walmart, in Washington's Mount Vernon. The incident occurred on July 17, when a group of men entered the store and found themselves having an altercation with another group. The injured persons include a 72-year-old customer, 24-year-old employee and three 19-year-old men who were involved in the altercation. The injured were rushed to a hospital, and further details are awaited.

Amid injuries, top Indian shot putter Tajinderpal Singh Toor withdrew from the upcoming Commonwealth Games in Birmingham. After being left in a tractor-trailer without air conditioning in the oppressive Texas heat, 51 people perished. The truck driver and two other individuals were detained. The bodies were found when a city worker spotted the vehicle on the outskirts of San Antonio on June 27. At the scene, 46 persons were found deceased. Five other people died after being transported to hospitals. 

A 17-year-old Chihuahua mix from Arizona, USA, was crowned "World's Ugliest Dog" at the event, which takes place during Sonoma-Marin Fair in California. Mr. Happy Face, the winner, has tumors and neurological impairments, requires diapers, struggles to stand straight or walk, and has a tilted head. Mr. Happy Face and its owner, Jeneda Benelly, won the contest and received $1,500 in prize money and a vacation to New York City.
