Maharashtra Village Gets Sarpanch After 15 Years Due To Superstition
For the first time in the last 15 years, Maharashtra's Rajpuri village got a sarpanch in 2021 in Sheetal Rajpure. The appointment of Sheetal banished the 15-year-old superstition under which the villagers believed that whoever becomes sarpanch will die. "It is just a rumour," said Sheetal explaining that past sarpanches died only due to illness. More interestingly, the village underwent the election process after almost 40 years. Earlier, the villagers used to select representatives without elections.
