SC Issues Notice On MediaOne Channel’s Plea Challenging Centre’s Telecast Ban
The Supreme Court issued a notice in the special leave petition filed by the Malayalam news channel 'MediaOne', owned by Jamaat-e-Islami. Besides, SC challenged the Kerala High Court’s order upholding the recent ban imposed on it by the Union Information and Broadcasting Ministry (UIBM). Notably, The Union Ministry had suspended Media One’s telecast and refused to give clearance to the channel, citing 'security reasons' in January.

Apple Halts Product Sales In Russia Amid Ukraine-Russia Invasion
As per reports, Tech Giant Apple has halted product sales in Russia following the country’s invasion of Ukraine. "We have paused all product sales in Russia. Last week, we stopped all exports into our sales channel in the country,'' stated Apple. Moreover, the iPhone maker has limited Apple Pay and other services in Russia. Earlier in 2021, Apple had stopped sales in Turkey due to economic turmoil and currency fluctuation.

Russia Expelled From FIFA World Cup; Clubs Banned From International Competitions
Russia is expelled from the 2022 Football World Cup and its teams are suspended from all international football competitions by world football bodies FIFA and UEFA, on February 28. In addition, the action was taken in response to the war declared by Russia on Ukraine. Notably, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) also recommended a ban on Russian and Belarusian athletes and officials from competing in events.

India To Ban 54 Chinese apps That Pose Threat To National Security
The government of India has issued an order to ban 54 Chinese apps, citing that these applications pose a threat to national security. The 54 Chinese apps include Beauty Camera: Sweet Selfie HD, Viva Video Editor, and more. As per reports, these apps are either a cloned version or have similar functionality and privacy issues. Notably, India had banned 59 Chinese mobile applications including TikTok, WeChat, and Helo in 2021.

Japan Govt Extends Entry Ban Amid Omicron Threat: COVID-19
Citing Omicron situation, Japan PM, Fumio Kishida on January 11, announced ban on entry of non-resident foreigners till the end of February. The entry ban has been in place since November 30, following Japan's first case of the highly contagious Omicron variant. Kishida suggested that a formal decision whether to continue entry ban in its current form would be decided once Japan's long weekend finished.
