4 Crore People Pushed Into Poverty During Pandemic, Says Rahul Gandhi

Congress party's Rahul Gandhi on January 23, stated that more than four crore people have been pushed into poverty in the country. "Vikas overflow only for 'Humare Do'! While our 4,00,00,000 brothers and sisters are pushed into poverty," said Gandhi. He further stated that the wealth of two top businessmen have grown by billions of dollars, while over four crore people have gone below poverty line, during the pandemic.

Congress To Hold CEC Meeting Over Selection Of Candidates: Uttarakhand Elections

Ahead of the Uttarakhand elections, Congress's CEC will hold a meeting for the selection of candidates on January 21, at 4 pm. On taking back Harak Singh Rawat into the party, former CM Harish Rawat said, "I am not angry with anyone." Earlier in 2016, Harak Singh joined BJP along with 10 MLA's. Meanwhile, Harak Singh has expressed his desire to join Congress but former CM is uncomfortable, said sources.

Raebareli MLA Sadar Aditi Singh has resigned from the Congress, ahead of the UP Assembly elections. On January 20, Aditi submitted her resignation to Interim President Sonia Gandhi. Notably, the Congress party has been out of power in UP for three decades.

Uttarakhand Police Arrests 1 For Waving Knife During Harish Rawat's Program

In Uttarakhand's Kashipur, a man was arrested after allegedly brandishing a knife on stage during a programme of Congress party. The programme was attended by former state CM Harish Rawat. However, no untoward incident happened as the accused was nabbed by the Youth Congress members. "A case has been registered and the person has been arrested for brandishing a knife on a stage," said Dilip Kumar Kunwar, SSP.
