Kolkata On Alert Amid Cyclone, KMC Cancels Staff Leaves
The Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) issued alerts for employees and disaster management teams amid the formation of cyclonic storm Asani. The cyclone is likely to intensify further into a severe cyclone, said mayor Firhad Hakim on May 8. Furthermore, leaves of all the employees have been cancelled and were alerted to deal with the cyclone, likely on May 9,10. The cyclone will bring heavy rainfall in the city.

Bengal Is Much Better Than Other States: WB CM Mamata Banerjee
On the first anniversary of the third time in power, pointing out the poor law and order situation in Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said that Bengal is much better than other states. 19 Crude Bombs Found In Abandoned Auto-Rickshaw: West Bengal
In Kolkata, 19 crude bombs were seized from an abandoned auto-rickshaw near a children's home, confirmed police on April 23. As per PTI, the search was based on a tip-off, and after the raid found bombs. The officer said, "19 crude bombs, one country-made pistol and two cartridges were found in one of the auto-rickshaws". The official launched an investigation to assure if it is a terror plot.

CBI To Conduct DNA Tests Against Accused In Hanskhali Rape Case: WB
The CBI is planning to conduct DNA tests to collect evidence against the arrested accused in the Hanskhali rape case, reported PTI. A ninth grader was allegedly raped at a birthday party on April 4, in the house of a local TMC leader's son, who is the prime accused in the case. Soon after the incident the girl died. The girl's father filed a police complaint, on April 10.

NCB Kolkata Captures Large Quantities Of Drugs, Arrests 4
The Narcotics Control Bureau recovered psychotropic substances in large quantities in a three-day-long operation in Kolkata. Four persons have been arrested in connection with the incident, confirmed narcotics officials. India’s First Underwater Metro Tunnel To Be Operational By 2023: Kolkata
The construction of India’s first underwater tunnel in Kolkata under the Hooghly River for the establishment of metro links between Howrah and Kolkata is underway and will be made fully functional by 2023. "Important Passage work has also been done keeping in mind that if a technical problem arises inside the water tunnel area, passengers can be taken out through the special passage," stated an official.

Birbhum Violence: Police Arrest 21 Persons In 72 Hours
After the Calcutta High Court ordered a CBI probe into the matter of Birbhum violence, the police arrested individuals in a span of 72 hours. The arrested persons include six family members of Bhadu Sheikh, TMC Rampurhat Block president Anarul Hussain, three building material suppliers and TMC supporters. The said persons have been charged for murder, rioting, mischief by fire or explosives and causing grievous hurt.
