Ganja Plantation At India-Bangladesh Border Concerns BSF

Ganja cultivation near India-Bangladesh border has raised concerns. DGP of Border Security Force (BSF) Rakesh Ranjan Lal said, "We are trying our best. The rate of our success is higher in the detection and seizure of Ganja in the forest area." However, the constant rise in plantation is troubling the BSF, leading to use technical ways to destruct Ganja plantation. Notably, in 2021, BSF seized narcotics worth Rs 27 crore.

Amit Shah Chairs 3rd NCORD Meeting; Says, Drug Abuse A Threat To National Security

Home Minister Amit Shah chaired the third apex level meeting of Committee of Narco Coordination Centre (NCORD), on December 27. He insisted on scanning all containers at ports to ensure the country's "zero tolerance towards narcotics" policy is upheld. He further stated, "Modi government considers drug abuse as a major threat to the national security". Notably, about 35 lakh kilos of drugs were seized between 2018 and 2021.

Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray on October 16 broke his silence and accused Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) of ‘deliberately’ targeting the celebrities for publicity. He said that there was an effort to create an impression that Mumbai has become a narcotics hub. “They catch a celebrity, click pictures and make noise around it. Our police only work while news is about whether someone got bail or not,” CM Thackeray said.

International Smuggler Gunned Down in J&K; Recovered Drugs Worth 100 Crore

The BSF gunned down a narcotics smuggler along the International Border in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kathua district on June 23. Besides the repeated warning, he entered the Indian territory and tried to flee, stated the personnels. However, the officials have recovered 27 kg of heroin, worth over 100 crore in the International market. Moreover, the identity of the smuggler has not been disclosed yet.

Austrian Govt Arrests 81 In A Global Sting Against Organised Crime

81 out of 800 people were arrested in Austria in a global sting against organised crime belonging from various groups. The arrested are suspects of multiple crimes including drug trafficking and murder. Reportedly the joint operation by the US Federal Bureau of Investigation, Australian and European police caught people from Australia, Asia, Europe, South America and the Middle East involved in the narcotics trade.

Faridabad Woman Arrested For Framing Her Husband Under Cannabis Case

Faridabad Police registered an FIR against a woman who allegedly tried to frame her husband under cannabis case. Reportedly, the woman had bought 700 grams of cannabis from a dealer in Delhi, planted in her husband's auto-rickshaw and tipped off the police. The woman has been arrested and sent to prison, said the police. However, the investigation is underway to catch hold of the drug dealer.

Indian Navy Seizes Rs 3,000 Cr Drugs From Fishing Vessel In Arabian Sea

Following a patrolling operation on the Arabian Sea, the Indian Navy seized narcotic substances worth Rs 3000 crore from a fishing vessel on April 19. The INS Suvarna escorted the boat loaded with 300 kg narcotics along with crew to Kochi for investigation. Calling it a major catch in terms of quantity and cost, the Navy expressed concerns towards syndicate's involvement in "terrorism, radicalisation and criminal activities"

6 Pakistani, 1 Indian Named By NIA In 2019 Gujarat Drug Case

In a major development, the National Investigation Agency has named six Pakistanis and an Indian in the charge sheet filed against a narcotics seizure case. The charge sheet booked them under relevant sections of IPC, UAPA and NDPS Act. As per reports, the case was registered in 2019 when Indian Coast Guards seized 237 Kg narcotics from a Pakistani vessel ‘Al-Madina’ near Jakhau Port in Gujarat's Kutch.

Bihar: NCB Arrest Five Over Possession of Cannabis of More Than 500 Kgs

The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) of the Patna Zonal Unit, seized over 500 kgs of cannabis on August 30, smuggled from Odisha and was being transported to Hajipur district in Bihar. The NCB team seized the truck from which the cannabis was transported and also managed to arrest the receiver of the consignment. The truck driver and four other suspects have been arrested, and further investigation is ongoing.
