Govt Commissions 2,494 Oxygen Plants In 'Record' 112 Days
In a remarkable achievement, as many as 2,494 medical oxygen generation plants have been authorized at government hospitals in 112 days across 733 districts in India. It's a capacity to produce 3,324 tonnes of medical oxygen per day. Notably, 100% of the sanctioned plants are fully operational in 22 states and Union Territories. Reportedly, the government took the crisis as an opportunity to install these plants at hospitals.

Center Refuses Council To Check Oxygen Deficit Deaths, Says Manish Sisodia
Delhi Deputy CM Manish Sisodia targeted the Centre for not allowing to form a committee regarding the alleged deaths of the people due to oxygen constrain on July 21. Meanwhile, the Union Health Ministry stated that the other states and Union Territories reported zero deaths due to oxygen shortage. “The Centre wants to hide the truth about the mismanagement it brought on,” said Sisodia.

Punjab Kings To Arrange Oxygen Concentrators For COVID-19 Patients
The IPL franchise Punjab Kings (PBKS) has collaborated with private organization Round Table India (RTI) and crowdfunding platform ketto.org to provide oxygen concentrators to the COVID-19 patients. Sonu Sood To Set Up O2 Plants At Kurnool, Nellore Hospitals In June
Actor Sonu Sood has announced to install oxygen plants at government hospitals in Andhra Pradesh’s Kurnool and Nellore district in June. Sonu announced the news after he received the ordered consignment from France and other nations. Stressing more on COVID affected rural areas, the philanthropist actor assured to set up more such plants in worst hit areas. Kurnool collector S. Ramsundar Reddy thanked Sood for his humanitarian gesture.

Centre Asks States To Train Drivers To Carry Liquid Oxygen Containers
The Transport Ministry on May 22 directed the states to create a pool of trained and licensed drivers to supply medical oxygen to increase the transportation of health facilities. Aiming to have 2,500 drivers in the next two months, the ministry said the drivers will supplement or replace the existing drivers in relief work. The government also suggested to train drivers through short (3-4 day) program and apprenticeships.

Delhi Asks Union To Give Surplus Oxygen Quota To Other Needy States
The Delhi government on May 13 sought the Centre to give Delhi’s surplus oxygen quota to other states. Deputy CM Manish Sisodia said Delhi’s oxygen requirement has dropped from 700 metric tonnes to 582 metric tonnes/day. Thanking the Union and Delhi HC for rendering help in crisis, Dy-CM Sisodia said the positivity rate in Delhi dropped by 14% along with an increased availability in number of beds and oxygen concentrators.

Government Waives Off Toll Fee For Oxygen Tankers On Highways
The Centre has waived off toll fee for tankers and vehicles carrying liquid medical oxygen across all the national highways. According to the National Highways Authority of India, oxygen containers and ambulances will be given utmost priority for the next two months. "The timely delivery of LMO (liquid medical oxygen) to hospitals and medical centres is of paramount importance to save lives," said NHAI.

Navy Initiates Samudra Setu-II To Bring Oxygen From Foreign Countries
The Indian Navy has initiated the Samudra Setu-II operation to facilitate faster overseas transportation of liquid oxygen and other medical gear to aid India's COVID struggle. Reportedly, Indian Naval warships, including INS Kolkata, INS Airavat and INS Jalashwa have been sent offshore for the task.
