Educational Institutions To Resume Offline Classes From Feb 14: J&K
In the view of the declining COVID-19 cases, Jammu & Kashmir administration on February 13, has decided to resume offline classes for universities and colleges from February 14. "All Universities, Polytechnics, ITI's shall commence routine offline teaching," the guidelines stated. However, schools in the winter and summer zone will open in a phased manner from February 14 and February 28.

National Education Policy 2020 To Be Launched On August 24
Minister of Higher education Dr CN Ashwatha Narayana has confirmed that the Karnataka government will be implementing the "National Education Policy 2020 (NEP 2020)" on August 24. In a virtual meet, Narayana asserted that steps are being taken to clear the doubts and confusion raised by stakeholders and other leaders about the policy. Besides, universities have been instructed to set up separate helplines regarding the new policy.

Central Govt Aims To Conduct CET For University Admissions
Under the new National Education Policy, Ministry of Education has decided to conduct common entrance test such as JEE, and NEET for students to get admitted in various universities. However, the government is planning to conduct the test in July-August, and the test aims to provide admission in undergraduate for non-technical courses. Reportedly, the entrance test was delayed due to surge in COVID cases.

K'taka Dy-CM Asks Universities, Schools To Not Force Students Vacate Hostel
The Karnataka government has released an order instructing all schools and colleges not to compel students to vacate hostels during the new Covid-19 surge. The Deputy CM C N Ashwath Narayan said that students must not be forced to return home until exams for current session are over. Meanwhile, the pandemic-stricken closed educational institutions in the state asking students to go back home have faced protests from the students.

Haryana Govt To Launch Anti-Tobacco Drive In Colleges From Jan 26
CM Manohar Lal Khattar-led Haryana government will start an anti-tobacco drive across all colleges and universities in the state from January 26. While painting anti-smoking slogans, the government would place volunteers near school displaying motivational messages. MPhil, PhD Scholars Get Six Months Extension To Submit Thesis
The University Grants Commission (UGC) has postponed the last date for submission of thesis by MPhil and PhD students by six months. The decision was taken due to the long closure of universities during the COVID-19 pandemic. While keeping the 5-year tenure of fellowship for PhD and MPhil intact, the students have been allowed to submit thesis till June 30. Earlier, the commission had given the relaxations till December 31.

Centre To Set Up New University To Promote Indian languages
In an attempt to promote Indian languages, the Centre has proposed to set up Bharatiya Bhasha Vishwavidyalaya (BBV) and Indian Institute of Translation and Interpretation (IITI).
