WB Polls: A First-Time Voter Shot Dead Outside The Polling Booth
A first-time voter, Anand Burman, was dragged outside the polling booth and killed in Cooch Behar district's Sitalkuchi area, on April 10, while the fourth phase of polling underway. Burman's family said the killing was instigated by TMC while BJP claims he was their polling agent. The culprit remains unidentified. The election official said, "we have sought a report". Police and Rapid Action Force was deployed to ease tension.

West Bengal Elections: CISF Personnel Open Fires Killing Four During The 4th Phase Polls
A Central Industrial Security Forces (CISF) personnel opened fire and killed four people in West Bengal’s Cooch Behar district on April 10. The incident took place in the Sitalkuchi area when the locals allegedly scuffled and tried to snatch the security forces rifles while the fourth phase voting was underway. Coming into action, the Election Commission has asked the district officials to submit a report on the incident.

Bengal Sees Over 80% Turnout In 2nd Phase; Mamata Alleges Rigging

Bengal: MLA Debashree Roy Leaves Party After Denied Assembly Ticket
Popular Bengali actor and two-time Raidighi constituency MLA Debashree Roy has quit the Trinamool Congress on March 15. Reportedly, the actor-turned-politician resigned after being denied a ticket to contest elections for the 294-seat West Bengal Assembly. While Roy has announced plans to focus on acting projects momentarily, she has also expressed her willingness to join another party if offered a sound proposition.

West Bengal Polls: Ex-TMC MP Dinesh Trivedi Joins BJP
West Bengal's ex-Railway Minister and former Rajya Sabha member from Trinamool Congress (TMC) Dinesh Trivedi joined BJP in the presence of party president JP Nadda on March 6. Citing escalating violence in the state as a reason, Trivedi had on February 12 announced his resignation from the Rajya Sabha. After defecting, Dinesh said, "Golden moment I had been waiting for." Bengal will go for polls from March 27 in eight phases.

EC Extends Polling Time By 30 Mins For Phase-1 Bengal Election

Bengal BJP Targets CM Mamata, Calls Her Aunt In 'Daughter Slogan'
The Bengal BJP on February 28 launched its new election cry "Bengal only wants its own daughters but not Pishi (aunt)".
