Former Army Officer Gurmit Singh Appointed As Uttarakhand Governor

The Former Army Officer Gurmit Singh, who retired as Deputy Chief of the Indian Army is now appointed as the new Governor of Uttarakhand. President Ram Nath Kovind appointed him as the new governor, as incumbent governor Baby Rani Maurya submitted her resignation. As the Director-General of military operations. Lt Gen Gurmit Singh also handled China's operational and military-strategic issues.

Indian President Appoints Governors To TN, U'khand, Punjab & N'land

President Ram Nath Kovind on September 10 appointed several governors of the state. Lt Gen Gurmit Singh is appointed as the Governor of Uttarakhand after Baby Rani Maurya resigned from the post. Further, Banwarilal Purohit has been appointed as Governor of Punjab, R N Ravi has been appointed for the Governor of Tamil Nadu, and Prof Jagdish Mukhi as the Governor of Nagaland.

Tamil Nadu: Governor Approves Reservation For Govt. School Students In Medical Colleges

Tamil Nadu's ordinance which aims to provide reservation for Government school students in medical colleges, has been accorded the 'law' status after approval by the Governor. This will provide a reservation of 7.5% which results in almost 300 seats in medical colleges being reserved for students from government schools who clear NEET, the medical entrance exam. Reportedly, the law is applicable from this academic year itself.

Conflict Erupts Between Maharashtra CM And Governor Over Opening Of Religious Places

Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari on October 12, reportedly, wrote a letter to the Chief Minister (CM) Uddhav Thackray asking him to reopen places of worship with COVID-19 precautions. In the letter, he asked CM if he has turned 'secular' despite his Hindutva ideology. The CM in his response said that he does not need a 'certificate' of Hindutva from the Governor and a decision on his suggestion will be taken soon.

Afghanistan: Suicide Attack Targeting Governor Kills 8, Several Injured

A suicide attack aiming the convoy of the Governor of Laghman, Rahmatullah Yarmal, on October 5 killed eight people and left over 30 injured. The spokesman for the provincial government has stated that the governor was slightly injured but survived the attack. Reportedly, no radical groups of the country has taken responsibility for the attack, so far.
