Another Avalanche Hits Nathu La, Rescue Operation Stopped: Sikkim

In less than 24 hours, another avalanche hit Nathu La, due to which an ongoing rescue operation was called off. As per sources, on April 4, an avalanche hit Nathu La's higher altitude, leaving seven people dead. Many tourists were said to have been trapped, following which the Sikkim rescue team started an operation to save those trapped. Furthermore, the weather is said to be disturbing with heavy snowfall.

Bharat Jodo Yatra End Ceremony To Be Disrupted Amid Snowfall In J&K

The closing ceremony of Congress' Bharat Jodo Yatra led by Rahul Gandhi is expected to be disrupted amid snowfall in Jammu and Kashmir. On January 30, the Congress is scheduled to conduct a grand rally at Sher-I-Kashmir Cricket Stadium, marking the end of the 135-day-long Kanyakumari to Kashmir yatra. However, weather update reveals that snowfall is expected in the region, which could trouble the end-ceremony of the Bharat Jodo Yatra.

Gulmarg Registers Record-Breaking High Temperature: Jammu & Kashmir

Gulmarg registered a record four times hike against normal temperature, on March 17. In addition, Srinagar recorded 26° Celcius against a normal temperature of 14 degrees. As per sources, the rise in temperature is due to dry weather conditions as the spring rains missed the spot. Notably, Kupwara is listed as the hottest place in Jammu & Kashmir at 28.6 degree Celsius.

Flight Operations Delayed At Srinagar Airport Amid Heavy Snowfall: J&K

Amid continuous heavy snowfall in Kashmir, all the flights have been delayed at Srinagar airport by reducing the visibility to 400m. "We will continuously update the status of flights," said Srinagar airport officials said. He further added snow clearing operations are underway on the runway and the apron. A snow control room has been set up by the Mechanical Engineering Department in J&K with modern machinery and expert staff.

Snow Control Room Installed In J&K's Srinagar; Snowfall To Be Monitored

A snow control room has been set up by the Mechanical Engineering Department in J&K's Srinagar. The snow control room will monitor the snow fall and be prepared in case of emergency calls due to snowstorms. Reportedly, the facility is well equipped with modern machinery and expert staff. "For now we have around 11-12 machines to clear snowfall, that are installed especially near hospitals," Chief Engineer Adbul Dar told ANI.

Delhi, UP & Several Parts Of North-India To Receive Rainfall: IMD

As per the reports of IMD, Delhi and its adjoining areas to witness light rainfall on February 22. Further, states such as Punjab, Chandigarh, West UP, and Rajasthan will receive a wet spell on February 22 and 23 due to approaching Western Disturbance. Regions like Jammu, Ladakh, and Gilgit will experience isolated heavy rainfall/snowfall. Moreover, moderate rainfall is predicted over Bihar, Odisha, and West Bengal.

Roads Blockage, Water-Power Supply Disruption Due To Heavy Snowfall: HP

After being hit by a heavy snowfall in HP, several roads, including four national highways were closed, while several power and water supply schemes disrupted. As per State Disaster Management Authority's data, 731 roads were closed, 1,467 power-and-water supply schemes were disrupted. Srinagar-Jammu Highway Blocked Due To Landslides & Shooting Stones

Srinagar-Jammu national highway on January 23 has been blocked due to landslides and shooting stones triggered by the prevailing inclement weather in Jammu & Kashmir region, said the officials. Besides that, Mughal road, Sinthan road, and Srinagar-Sonamarg to Gumri road also remains shut due to the accumulation of snow. Earlier, passenger Light Motor Vehicles were allowed by the authorities along the Srinagar-Jammu national highway.

Regions Of Kashmir Valley Receive Fresh Snowfall, Temperature Falls

Gulmarg & Pahalgam in Kashmir received fresh snowfall, while the minimum temperature dropped slightly in most of its parts. In Srinagar, the minimum temperature settled at a low of 2.2°C, while Gulmarg recorded a low of minus 2.2°C. The officials in Meteorological Department have said that weather will remain cloudy in the Jammu & Kashmir, with possibility of rain or snow during January 22-23.
