33% Of Government Job Seats To Be Booked For Women: Union Minister

On the occasion of Women's Day, Union Minister Amit Shah announced 33% of government jobs to be reserved for women. While addressing a rally, Shah said that farmer's earnings have doubled under the current government's rule, up to Rs 1.2 lakhs. "Agartala has been connected with the rest of the country through rail. A total 542 km of national highways has been built," he added.

Former BJP Leaders Sudip Barman & Ashish Kumar Join Congress On Feb 8

Former BJP leaders Sudip Kumar Barman and Ashish Kumar Saha joined the opposition Congress on February 8. Notably, on February 7, they resigned from BJP in Tripura, after the BJP removed Barman from the ministry post due to anti-party activities.  Ahead of joining the Congress, two leaders met with former Congress President Rahul Gandhi and General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi. The developments came ahead of 2023 Tripura Assembly elections.

Cross Border Infiltrations Gone Down During COVID-19 Pandemic: IG Sushanta Kumar

Border Security Force (BSF) Tripura Frontier IG Sushanta Kumar Nath stated that the cross border infiltrations have gone down owing to the COVID-19 pandemic. He said, "a total of 221 infiltrators have been arrested while attempting to cross the borders illegally." The number was reportedly higher in 2018 and 2019. IG Sushanta Kumar Nath further stated that the total seizures made last year were worth Rs 35.64 crore.

Tripura Govt Gives Approval To Build Buddhist University In Sabroom

In Manu Bankul of Tripura's Sabroom, a Buddhist university will be built as the state government gave its approval for the same, said officials on December 11. According to PTI, It'll provide opportunities to students from 31 different countries, as well as help research on Buddhist literature, culture, and tradition. BJP Defeats TMC, CPI(M) To Win Tripura Civic Poll

In the civic body elections in Tripura, the ruling BJP won all the seats of the 51-member Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) on November 28. BJP also performed well in several other urban local bodies, reported PTI. The election was held on the 222 seats of AMC on November 25 and while on 112 seats BJP nominees won uncontested. However, opposition parties TMC and CPI(M) demanded a fresh election.

Earthquake Of 6.1 Magnitude Shakes Northeast Region

The National Seismology Department said that the northeast region, including Assam, Mizoram, Manipur, and Tripura was jolted by an earthquake of 6.1 magnitude on November 26. The epicentre of the quake was reported to be near the boundary of Myanmar, near Mizoram. So far, there're no reports of damage to property and loss of life. Earlier on April 28, a 6.4 magnitude earthquake hit the Assam region.

Tripura Municipal Elections Begin; 785 Candidates & 222 Seats

The Tripura Municipal Elections for 222 seats began at 7:00 AM, on November 25. Approximately 785 candidates are contesting, including the Bharatiya Janata Party, the Trinamool Congress, the Indian National Congress, the Communist Party of Marxist (CPM) and independent candidates. Supreme Court Refuses To Delay Local Polls, Suggests Additional Forces: Tripura

The Supreme Court (SC,) on November 23, heard a plea by the Trinamool Congress and refused to delay the Agartala Municipal elections in Tripura, amid violence. In addition, the apex court asked the election authority to deploy additional forces to ensure smooth polls, scheduled on November 25. The Top Court also directed the Director-General of Police (DGP) and Home Secretary to submit a report on arrangements of the polls.

SC To Hear TMC's Plea Against Tripura Violence

The Supreme Court (SC) is expected to hear a petition filed by the Trinamool Congress (TMC) against the Tripura violence, on November 23. The plea was filed in view of the continuous violent incidents ahead of the Agartala Municipal Elections on November 25. The apex Court asked police to ensure that no political parties are restricted from their campaign rights within law and order.
