Allahabad HC Requests UP Govt "With Folded Hands" For 14-Day Lockdown
The Allahabad High Court on April 27 again requested the Uttar Pradesh government to impose a two-week lockdown in the state. The HC bench headed by Justice Siddhart Verma said, "With folded hands, we request you to exercise your discretion". It also emphasized on the shortage of medical facilities in UP. Earlier, the high court's order of imposing lockdown in five major cities was stayed by the Supreme Court.

Supreme Court Puts Stay On Allahabad HC's Lockdown Order
The Supreme Court on April 20 stayed the Allahabad High Court's order of locking down 5 cities of Uttar Pradesh. The apex court announced the decision against a plea file by the state government challenging the high court's order. Earlier, the Allahabad High Court had ordered a closure of five cities - Prayagraj, Lucknow, Varanasi, Kanpur and Gorakhpur - due to sudden spike in COVID-19 cases.

Allahabad HC Frees Man Who Spent 20 Years In Jail In False Rape Case
The Allahabad High Court on February 24 acquitted a 43-year-old man from UP's Lalitpur district, who spent 20 years in jail in a false rape case. The man, Vishnu, was serving the life imprisonment in Agra jail after a Dalit woman falsely framed him for rape in September 2000. Reportedly, Vishnu had challenged the session court's judgment in the high court in 2005 but the case remained defective till now.

Allahabad High Court Declares Right To Choose Partner As Fundamental Right
The Allahabad High Court on November 24 declared choosing of partners as a fundamental right, ruling out two previous orders. The court held that the choice of partners is intrinsic to personal liberty and decision otherwise would be encroachment to freedom of choice. Moreover, the HC added, religious matters are irrelevant in the case of consensual matters. The decision surfaced amidst UP government touting for a law against love jihad.

CRPF Jawans Entrusted To Protect Hathras Rape Victim Family And Witnesses
Following the Supreme Court’s October 27 order, 80 CRPF soldiers took over the security of Hathras rape victim's family. A three-judge Supreme Court bench had asked UP government to ensure CRPF security cover to the family and witnesses within a week.
