China’s former deputy public security minister Sun Lijun has been sentenced to life imprisonment for allegedly accepting $91 million in bribe. He was also accused of allegedly “deserting” his post during China’s initial fight against COVID-19. The 53-year-old Lijun was initially sentenced to death. However, his punishment was commuted to life imprisonment. The coring held that Lijun has abused his power during 2001 to 2020.

The Chief General Manager of the National Highways Authority of India has been arrested by CBI for allegedly taking bribe, on September 23. Along with the Chief GM, two employees of a private company was also arrested for their alleged involvement in the Rs 5 lakh bribe. Reportedly, the bribe was taken for favour in clearing inflated bills, manipulation of measurement books, etc.
In Uttar Pradesh's Ballia, a Sub Inspector, accused of taking a bribe of Rs 20,000 was suspended, on September 4. Dinesh Sharma, the suspended officer who was posted as Sonadhi Police outpost in charge, allegedly asked for a bribe in an audio clip to withdraw a case against an accused. Furthermore, a case has been registered and a detailed investigation has been ordered against Dinesh Sharma.
In Jammu and Kashmir, a revenue officer was caught red-handed taking a bribe of Rs 1.5 lakh from a tout for issuing documents of a plot of land. The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) arrested Ashok Sharma, after carrying a sting operation. The bribe case was registered against Sharma, as he demanded Rs 25 lakh for legal proceedings. Notably, the ACB is conducting an investigation and also arrested another Bhagat and tout.
In the National Capital of Delhi, one Drug Controller General of India (DCGI) official was arrested by CBI for allegedly taking a bribe of Rs 4 lakh, on June 21. Along with Joint Drugs Controller (JDC) Eswara Reddy, Dinesh Dua, Director of a Delhi-based private company was also apprehended. The duo was allegedly accepting the bribe to waive off the phase III clinical trial of Insulin Aspart injection.
In Madhya Pradesh, a government employee has been arrested, after he was caught red-handed for taking a bribe of Rs 35,000 in Balaghat, under the Prevention of Corruption Act provisions On June 20, the police said, Paimendra Harinkhede, a reader in the tehsildar office of Lalbarra area, sought bribe for the change of title of a factory, said DSP Economic Offences Wing, Manjeet Singh.
In Haryana's Yamunanagar district, the Haryana State Vigilance Bureau arrested Rajni Kant, Sub-Inspector of Food, Civil Supplies, and Consumers Affairs Department for taking bribes. As per ANI, Praveen Kumar, a resident of Noltha, filed a complaint against the SI and said Rajni Kant used to take a bribe of Rs 20,000 every month, to verify bills. In Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch district, a Station House Officer (SHO) of Loran police station, was arrested for accepting bribe from a complainant. Reportedly, SHO Ved Prakash accepted a bribe amount of Rs 10,000 from a complainant in a land dispute. Prakash, who is a resident of Haripur village of R S Tehsil was caught red-handed while demanding and accepting the bribe, after which, a case was registered against him.

Investigations by news outlets have revealed that the Swedish automaker Scania's employees paid bribes to win bus contracts in seven Indian states during 2013-2016. Reportedly, the company had falsified truck models with fake chassis numbers and license plate and earned nearly $11.8 million by selling them to an Indian mining company. The investigative report by Swedish news channel SVT had revealed the involvement of an Indian Minister.

Central Bureau of Investigation arrested Indian Railways Engineering Services senior official Mahender Singh Chauhan who was posted at NFR's Assam headquarters on January 17.
