Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan said that his government will not implement the controversial Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). Speaking at a function marking one year anniversary of the LDF government, Vijayan said, "the state government has taken a firm stand that citizenship would not be determined based on religion". Minister Nityanand Rai has stated that the parliament has extended the time to frame the rules under the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019. A man from Madhya Pradesh’s Shajapur district police had been imprisoned for five months for sharing a pro-Shaheen Bagh post over WhatsApp. The 28-year-old Anwar had been arrested on July 27 after a charge for evoking religious sentiments and was released on December 1.
