SC Directs UP Police Not To Take Action Against Zubair Until July 20
Supreme Court (SC) reviewed an urgent petition filed by Alt News Co-founder Mohammed Zubair, on July 18. Justice DY Chandrachud and BY Banopanna directed the Uttar Pradesh police not to take precipitative action against Zubair, in 2018 controversial tweet case, until July 20. The Apex Court bench listed the matter for next hearing on July 20. Notably, Mohammed filed a plea, seeking quashing of six FIRs, filed against him in UP.

Karnataka HC Reserve Orders In Xiaomi-ED Case
The Xiaomi-Enforcement Directorate case was reviewed by the Karnataka High Court (HC) single-bench judge SG Pandit, and has reserved its judgment, on June 16. Notably, the Chinese firm Xiaomi filed a case against ED, after the agency seized Rs 5,551.27 crore from its bank accounts. The mobile company is facing violation charges of the provisions of the Foreign Exchange Management Act, not allowing the seized money to use for business.

Plea In Allahabad HC Demands Probe To Ascertain Presence Of Hindu Idols In Taj Mahal
A plea has been filed in the Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High court, demanding a probe to ascertain the presence of Hindu idols inside the Taj Mahal. The petition especially calls for directions to the Archeological Survey of India to probe into the twenty-two closed doors inside the monument, to search for Hindu idols. The plea also relies on claims that Taj Mahal is a Shiv Temple.

Rohini Court Pulls Up Delhi Cops Over Failure To Control Jahangirpuri Violence
A Rohini court, on May 8, pulled up the Delhi police over their failure to control the Jahangirpuri clashes. Violence that had broken out in Jahangirpuri on the occasion of Hanuman Jayanti. Many were left wounded in the incident. Cases of stone-pelting were also reported during the Hanuman Jayanti procession in the north-western area of Delhi. The court noted that the issue seems to have been brushed aside.

No Interim Relief For Hanuman Chalisa Row MLA Couple
The Mumbai sessions court did not grant any interim relief to the "Hanuman Chalisa" couple. Furthermore, the couple has been sent to judicial custody till the next court hearing, which is slated for 29th April. The couple's advocate Rizwan Merchant, shared, "We will ask the police why the sedition charge was added," before adding, "Also, a withdrawal of plea is under process at the Bombay High Court."

SC Rejects Plea Seeking Probe Into Ram Navami, Hanuman Jayanti Violence
The apex court has rejected a plea which demanded an inquiry into the Ram Navami and Hanuman Jayanti violence. The Justice Nageswara Rao-led bench told the lawyer to not expect any relief, and that the court would not grant, saying, "You want an inquiry to be headed by (a) former Chief Justice of India?... Dismissed." The petitioner had prayed for a committee to probe into the clashes.

Delhi HC Issues Notice On PIL Seeking Review Of Criminal Procedure (Identification) Act
The Delhi High Court has issued a notice to the Central Government over a PIL seeking a review of the Criminal Procedure (Identification) Act, 2022. The petitioner, Harshit Goel, has prayed that Sections 2(1)(a) (iii), 2(1)(b), 3, 4, 5, 6 and 8 of this Act should be declared unconstitutional. The plea argues that bodily integrity is protected under Article 21, and that prisoners are also entitled to it.

Former Minister Babu Singh Sent To Judicial Custody
A Special Court in Jammu has sent Babu Singh, a former state minister, to judicial custody for 30 days, in connection with the Hawala scandal. Singh had been absconding since March and was taken into custody by the police only on April 9. Mohammed Shareef Shah, another person accused in the case, has also been sent to judicial custody. The next hearing is slated for May 15.

Punjab Police booked BJP Spokesperson Naveen Kumar Jindal for sharing a doctored video of Arvind Kejriwal. In the video, Kejriwal along with CM Bhagwant Mann and MLAs heard that now he takes corruption money. The case has been registered under various IPC sections. Meanwhile, Jindal said, "Misusing Punjab Police. Do as much FIR as you want to do. I am not going to be afraid of your cases".
