US Announces Diplomatic Boycott Of 2022 Winter Olympics In Beijing

The United States on December 6 announced that it would diplomatically boycott the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing, China. However, the US also clarified that US athletes' could attend the games. The ban has come to protest against China's human rights record. ''No-one would care about whether these people come or not, and it's no impact whatsoever on the games,'' said Zhao Lijian, China's foreign ministry spokesman.

Ready For Omicron, Will Successfully Hold Beijing Olympics: China

China will successfully hold the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympic Games in accordance with the schedule, despite the spread of coronavirus new strain Omicron, said Zhao Lijian, spokesperson of Chinese Foreign Ministry on November 30. The games are supposed to start on February 4, 2022, and will continue till February 20. ''I think Omicron strain will definitely bring some prevention and control challenges,'' added Lijian.

Chinese Companies Haven't Paid Lao Workers For 6 Years: Report

Workers of the Laos community hired by the Chinese companies did not pay wages for six years.  According to reports, workers were hired by the subcontractor of the Namtha 1 Power Company, on a project to construct homes, health centers, offices, roads, and schools, for the people, displaced due to the construction of a dam. "I built a health center five years ago and still haven't been paid", said a worker.

China's Olympic Village To Accept Athletes From Jan 27

The Vice-Chairman of the Olympics Committee for the Beijing Winter Olympics Zhang Jiandong said the players from different counties would be accepted in China's Olympic village from January 27, 2022. He further said the torch relay would be begun from February 2.  The Winter Olympics and the Paralympic Games will start on February 2 and March 4, ending on February 20 and March 13, respectively.
