Philanthropist D Veerendra Heggade Swears In As New Rajya Sabha MP
Renowned philanthropist D Veerendra Heggade took oath as a new member of the Rajya Sabha, on July 21. He is also the administrator of the Dharmasthala temple in Karnataka's Dakshina Kannada district. Besides Heggade, legendary music composer Ilayaraja, athlete PT Usha and screenwriter V Vijayendra Prasad also sworn in as new Rajya Sabha members. Allahabad HC Directs Parliament, Election Commission To Remove Criminals From Politics
Allahabad High Court directed the Parliament and the Election Commission of India (ECI) to take proactive measures to "remove criminals from politics" and destroy the corrupt link between criminals, politicians, and bureaucrats. The remarks were made while refusing bail for BSP MP Atul Kumar Singh a.k.a. Atul Rai. The Lucknow police had charged Rai with aiding in the suicide of a girl and her witness outside the Supreme Court.

ECI Announces Election Schedule For Vice President Post
The Election Commission of India (ECI) on June 29, announced the election schedule for the Vice President of India, which is on August 6. The official notification to decide the successor of VP Venkaiah Naidu will be issued on July 5. Furthermore, the last date to file nominations is on July 19, whereas scrutiny and withdrawal is on July 20 and 22, respectively. Results will be announced on August 6.

P Chidambaram Resigns From Maharashtra Seat After Elected To Rajya Sabha From Tamil Nadu
