Election Schedule For Punjab, Uttarakhand, Goa, UP & Manipur Announced

The Election Commission announced the Assembly Election Schedule for five states, on January 8. In Punjab, Uttarkhand, and Goa, the voting will begin on February 14 and will end on the same date. In UP, the voting will start on February 10 and will end on March 7. The voting in Manipur will start on February 27 and end on March 3. The counting will begin on March 10.

7 Held For Printing Fake Notes By UP Police In Ghaziabad

Uttar Pradesh police busted a gang of seven people who were involved in printing fake Indian currency from Ghaziabad, on January 7. Reportedly, they were operating from the city's Kaila Bhatta and Islamnagar area. The police also seized fake notes of Rs 6.60 lakh face value, one printer, a paper-cutting machine, and blank paper. The main accused, Azad, said that he learned the printing of fake notes from YouTube.

Uttar Pradesh Ranked 1st In National Water Awards-2020

In the 3rd National Water Awards-2020, Uttar Pradesh topped the ranking among the Indian states, followed by Rajasthan and Tamil Nadu, said the Ministry of Jal Shakti, on January 7. Reportedly, the award encourages the stakeholders to conserve water under the government's vision of 'Jal Samridh Bharat'. However, UP's Muzaffarnagar was also awarded ''Best District'', followed by Shahid Bhagat Singh Nagar in Punjab.

Ayodhya Striked By Earthquake Magnitude Of 4.3: UP

In Uttar Pradesh's Ayodhya, an earthquake magnitude of 4.3 on the Richter scale struck, on January 6 at 11:59 pm, according to the National Center for Seismology (NCS). The epicentre of the quake is reported to be 176 km NNE of the city. It occurred at a depth of 15 km from the surface. So far, no reports of deaths and damage to property have been reported.

SP Leader Firoz Pappu Killed On Road In 'Cool-Blooded' Manner: UP

In a shocking incident, Samajwadi party leader and former chairman of Nagar Panchayat Tulsipur, Firoz Pappu was killed by unknown assailants in Uttar Pradesh's Balrampur, on January 3. Police said that the 41-year-old leader was attacked with a sharp-edged weapon while he was returning home from Jarwa. Reportedly, security has been increased in the region after Pappu's supporters started protests demanding the arrest of the murderers.

Another Name Added In SIT's Chargesheet: Lakhimpur Kheri Violence Case

The Special Investigation Team filed a chargesheet in the Lakhimpur violence case, on December 3. The chargeesheet included another name in the case taking the tally of the arrested accused to 14. Ashish Mishra, the son of Union Minister Ajay Mishra, has also been included. On October 3, eight people died after being crushed by an SUV allegedly belonging to Ashish Mishra.

UP Govt Imposes Night Curfew Amid Rising Omicron Cases

The Uttar Pradesh government under the leadership of Yogi Adityanath announced a night curfew in the state amid the rising number of COVID-19 Omicron cases. The order will be effective from the day of Christmas, that is, December 25 till further orders. The night curfew will start at 11 pm and end at 5 am. Besides, a cap of 200 wedding guests has also been placed in the state.

PM Modi To Arrive At Shahjahanpur To Lay Foundation Stone Of Ganga Expressway

PM Narendra Modi will arrive in Uttar Pradesh's Shahjahanpur district to lay the foundation stone of Ganga Expressway, on December 18. The project offers a 594 km long six-lane expressway and it'll cost over Rs 36,200 crore to build. It'll start from Meerut's Bijauli village and will end in Prayagraj's Judapur Dandu village. Besides, it'll have a 3.5 km long airstrip, facilitating the landing of Air Force planes.
